St Andrews
St Andrews is a small medieval town bursting with history tucked up on the coast of north east Scotland.
It's a university town with the oldest seat of learning in Scotland and the third oldest in the English speaking world founded in 1410.
A walk round the elegant ivy clad stone buildings and quadrangles in the footsteps of previous undergraduates such as John Knox, Scotsman James Wilson (one of the six men who signed the US Declaration of Independence) and Edward Jenner who developed the smallpox vaccine to modern day Alumni such as Chris Hoy, and Prince William.
Since the 15th century St Andrews has been the spiritual home of golf and boasts a course which has tested the skills of every major professional player in the world.
The town sits close to miles of beach (the opening scene from Chariots of fire was shot at the West Sands) and blustering cliffs with jaw dropping outlook, visitors are ideally placed from here to explore the lovely East Neuk coasts fishing villages and its award winning pubs and sea food restaurants.
