Goa
A Portuguese colony until 1961, Goa still retains a strong European influence and has a very different character to the rest of India. Miles of endless beaches are interspersed with quaint villages, charming towns and striking remains of old fortresses, and visitors are drawn to its lush hills, cathedrals and coconut groves, spice plantations and paddy fields, its joie de vivre and its warm and friendly people. The possibilities for getting married in Goa are many and varied, including an intimate beach wedding on one of the beautiful secluded Goan beaches with the ocean as a backdrop, a church wedding in one of Goa's historic churches or a civil service with a grand reception or a private dinner afterwards. The choice is yours.
Goa caters for all tastes and interests, with plenty to see and do both day and night. The capital Panaji is dotted with white-washed churches and palm-lined plazas, and nearby in Old Goa is the basilica of Bom Jesus, the final resting place of St. Francis Xavier. Baga, Calangute and Anjuna beaches offer a taste of the hippy lifestyle, while the southern shores of Varca and Colva offer peace and privacy. Goa is also a hot spot for the Indian party set, with a dizzying choice of bars, restaurants and beach parties that carry on through the night. Once under its spell, Goa is a place you will never forget and is truly a honeymooner's dream come true.
